The structure of the brain (i.e. physical appearance) defines only for a small part who we are and what we do. More relevant is brain function (i.e. the electrical signals that travel through the brain).

The brain defines a human being. It weighs approximately 1400 grams and it is estimated to contain up to 85 billion neurons. These neurons form an extremely complex network that eventually defines our personality, cognitive functions (e.g. memory, attention and problem solving) and emotions. This sculpture of your own brain makes it possible to literally hold the substance that defines yourself in your own hands.

Quinten van Geest maakt kunst rondom het thema hersenen. Als voormalig hersenonderzoeker is hij gefascineerd door het brein en met zijn kunst vertelt hij verhalen over de hersenen. In zijn werk combineert hij moderne technologie, zoals MRI-scans en 3D printing, met de oude ambacht van het bronsgieten, schilderen en tekenen.
