Today’s art of making, designing and documenting. An exhibition held in Kadmium Delft exploring the contemporary digitalization of art and the growing movement of visual art towards technology and design. Curator: Zoe Reddy
The subject of what separates art and design has long been debated and dissected in both fields. Today the discussion becomes all the more apparent as artists and designers, creating visual compositions using a shared knowledge base, are similarly exploring the tools of today and reflecting on how to document or represent their works.
It has been said that the distinction between the two lies in their reasons for creation; the artist seeks to inspire or reflect while the designer seeks to inspire and improve. However upon examining the contemporary art and design fields we see that this notion is antiquated and does not reflect the possibilities opened up by new (digital) tools and ideas. Artists are calling themselves designers, researchers, makers and vice versa.

In this exhibition artists, designers and makers are placed along side one another to examine how their fields cross pollinate and specifically how digitalization and new tools impact the making and experiencing of art design.
