Serene Hui Sze Lok (b.1992, Hong Kong) responds visually to the environment and experiences gathered. Working with multidisciplinary approach - embodying conceptual installations and works on paper (Chinese ink paintings & illustrations) - her works are process reflection about philosophical ideas, moods and perception. Serene has been focusing on traditional Chinese ink painting for over 10 years before progressing to a more contemporary approach in her artistic practice, she develops a unique expression in landscape painting with vivid brushstroke in ink and wash (xie-yi). Such a practice contributes to her development in the arts, her works are often in form of an abstract and minimalistic visual-poetry.
Antoinet Deurloo’s work touches the subject of man and his relationship with nature. To her, nature encompasses all human aspects and functions in her work symbolically.
“The creation of my work is an interplay between myself, material, time and movement. In such a moment I am part of the sum in which all parts are connected and affect each other. During this process I find myself in an area between release and control, between spontaneity and command, between the visible and the invisible, between cosmic rhythms and human emotions.”
Her ‘landscapes’ made from porcelain, are abstract and suggestive and show the influence of her fascination for classic Chinese landscapes.
