The theme of the first member presentation in this new calendar year is DADA.

This, of course, because in 2023 it will be exactly 100 years since DADA manifested itself in the Hague Art Circle. What was then still a little known movement in the Netherlands, was already a phenomenon abroad at the time. When the Haagse Kunstkring offered DADA a stage in 1923, it nevertheless meant that the association was clearly at the forefront of showing innovative art. It is true that 'innovative art' is rather a predicate that art history has stuck to the movement, rather than that it was spoken of in 1923.

Expressions of DADA were playful, intense, confrontational, disruptive and sometimes downright politically inspired.

DADA as the theme for January 2023 means that we look forward to new work by the artists of the Haagse Kunstkring that, as van Doesburg described it, bears witness to “…the most immediate expression of our formless times…” It should be clear that “our formless time' can again be a very inspiring subject a century later.

DADA as a theme thus lends itself to a broad interpretation that excludes little. In addition, the participants in DADA were involved in just about all artistic disciplines. Music, theatre, dance, film and visual arts, everything could be given a place. A fact that fits in wonderfully well with the ambitions of the Haagse Kunstkring, the platform for all disciplines.

Special meetings around DADA will be organized throughout the month of January.
