From the 8th of September till the 5th of October 2012 Priveekollektie will open the new art season with the third solo-exhibition of Christiane Richter (Bielefeld, Germany 1963) in the gallery at De Lind 4 in Oisterwijk. The artist finds an inspiration in light, from which she manages to distil powerful colours. By isolating figurative elements and reducing them to almost abstract forms, she creates images that show us the world surrounding us in a different perspective.
Light is the most significant component in the recipe for Richters images, both in the technical process as in the outcome. Using a relatively simple camera, she manages to distil powerful colours from light: the magical transition from light to colour is captured in her photographs. Due to the poetic aspect of her work, it is often compared with the art of painting and her method of working was even called “painting with light”. Her abstract images with colour fields that fade into one another indeed show resemblance to the work of famous painters like Rothko and Malevich and her most recent abstract realistic images may remind us of aquarelles. Richter has found a place in between the art of painting and photography where she can work her magic.
