Unruly Gallery Wayne Horse | Youth Wars
Willehad Eilers / Wayne Horse (1981) is a German artist who lives and works in Amsterdam, where he graduated from the Royal Academy of Arts. In his work, which ranges from video to drawing to performance, Horse experiments with different ways of storytelling. He provokes the story to tell itself. The work deals with modern day society, focusing on the absurdities and oddness of day-to-day life and routines.

Horse: "The show at Unruly is called ‘Youth Wars’ and deals with youth. Primarily with their marks, left behind on bus stops or high school toilets. I am fascinated by their rawness and pureness. I try to read the stories, the spirit and attitude of these marks and place them into a greater context. Some of the deepest and most charming of these findings will be reinterpreted for this exhibition."

"Alongside I will present a series of 'blind drawings'. This series titled 'mach die augen zu dann siehst du was du darfst' (close your eyes and you see what you may do) deals with the possibilities in prohibitions. I closed my eyes and drew naked monkey policewomen carrying me in a brand new Mercedes Benz towards the beach.’ In addition there will be selected video works on show."

For his show at Unruly Gallery Wayne Horse will also present further steps of his ongoing project ‘The Plan’ on video. This project deals with paradise: ‘Why did we get expelled, what is paradise, what do we expect it to be, and, most importantly, how do we get back there?’.
Unruly Gallery Amsterdam

We are unruly. We like to look at life from different angles and turn things around. There is no truth. There is no untruth. Only everything in between. We're untying the old perspective.

And we create. Art. The ultimate comment on life and its endless perspectives.

But. We don't like the art world. We don't like the schisms, the categories, the feuds, the fried air that's being presented in galleries and museums like some tasty amuse gueule. There is a self proclaimed elite that’s holding art hostage.

Until Unruly. We're taking no prisoners. No government handouts either. Forget words like graffiti, street art and counter culture. Look at the individual artists. There are no words. There are no images. Only everything in between.

Look us in the face, see our smile. Share our love for what we love. Be unafraid. Be unruly.
