Cynthia VandenBor (1973) is an artist living in Rotterdam who concentrates on her painting. Her speciality is her “bird ladies”, fantasy figures which have their origin in her fascination with legends, fairy tales and myths.

The’bird ladies’ represent the animal in humans and the apparent human traits in animals.

They are all pictured wearing high heels and wear feathers on their fingers, which represent female elegance but also femimine vitriol.

She paints the ‘bird ladies’ on a background which is simple, colourful or cartoon-like and thereby places these fantasy figures in the modern age.
