"Alle Menschen werden Brüder"
Oil oin canvas
60 x 80 cm
Bert is participating in the 'Music' art competition organized by the Prins Alexander Art Circle in Rotterdam with his painting titled "Alle Menschen werden Brüder" (oil on canvas, 60 x 80 cm). The painting depicts the Barcelona Music Palace. The title of the painting, "Alle Menschen werden Brüder," refers to the finale of Ludwig van Beethoven's 9th Symphony. This section, also known as the Ode to Joy (Ode to Joy), is now widely considered the European anthem. In 1972, the Council of Europe chose Beethoven's theme, "Ode to Joy," as the European anthem. This anthem expresses the ideals of freedom, peace, and solidarity wordlessly, in the universal language of music. With this remarkable piece of music, Beethoven was far ahead of his time. For, precisely in this day and age, we need his musical message: all people become brothers! The painting depicts the musical score painted on the sheet of music at the bottom. The scene depicted with the orchestra takes place in the music theatre (the Palau de la Música Catalana) in Barcelona. This is one of the most beautiful concert halls in the world.
Finally, as an "encore," at the bottom of the frame is a small music box that, when wound and opened, plays the 9th Symphony and reveals a miniature painting by Ludwig van Beethoven.
The painting, along with the other entries for the art competition, can be seen at the Romeynshof, Stresemannplaats 8 in Rotterdam.
