The TD Art Gallery, in collaboration with Bluwire, presents the collective exhibition with international artists “POV: Being able to See Beyond” curated by art curator Silvia Grassi.
Abstraction, femininity, soul: these are the words that immediately come to mind when one finds oneself in front of the works of the Mexican-Dutch artist Emelly Velasco, who contains within himself and expresses with his art the perfect combination of overwhelming energy and deep reflection.
Through a painting rich in expression, Emelly addresses issues that are very dear to her and on which she also pushes us to reflect. A profound aesthetic research, she encounters in her works the desire to investigate femininity, the soul, the cosmic and earthly energies that interact with each other, always seeking a balance. The figure of women is central in Emelly's artistic research: the woman seen as an inexhaustible source of strength, energy, purity, but also all the contradictions, injustices and fears that she is forced to face. Emelly is never afraid to express what he thinks and feels in his deepest self through his works, addressing even very intimate issues of the female sphere, real taboos, such as menstruation or the female reproductive system. This is to ensure that anyone, whether man or
woman, can really stop and reflect.
The color, with its shades and intensity, the lines, the shapes are her impactful communication tools, which dance and sing on her canvases. Color is precisely one of the greatest expressive forces in Emelly's works. In the works selected for this exhibition we have two predominant colours: red, the color of life, of the blood flowing in the veins, of vitality and courage, and black, with all its shades of grey, associated and in dialogue with the its opposite, white. The two opposites that come into contact with each other and, from an initial struggle, finally begin to dialogue, until they merge together. This is what happens in the life of anyone, especially women, who are called upon to face a thousand difficulties every day, against which they struggle, but which thanks to their determination they manage to turn into their strengths.
The main purpose of an artist, and in particular of the artists present in the exhibition, is precisely to communicate their point of view on the world and to enter, through her works, into a strong relationship and contact with those who observe them. An artist has the gift of a sensitivity to observation of his surroundings that goes far beyond what is simply seen. Thanks to her creations we too are able to See Beyond.
Whoever observes a work of art places himself in a state of total openness. He will decide to let himself be transported into the world created by the artist. In front of a work you are alone, without filters, without intermediaries, you just have to open up and let your mind go, be overwhelmed by the work and the emotions that it triggers in us.
Thanks to a work of art, each of us is able to acquire a new vision of reality, a new interpretation of it.
Because yes, the artist delves into his deepest self and gives us an important part of himself through her works, he offers us her intimate thoughts. In doing so she manages to create a world that is new to us, because it is different from ours, which therefore pushes us to want to discover and investigate it more and more. Who knows, maybe these new discoveries will lead us to discover or rediscover a part of us that we thought we had lost or never had.
This is the immense power of art and the works on display!
In the exhibition itinerary, the extremely feminine and profound aesthetics of the works of the Mexican-Dutch artist Emelly Velasco enter into dialogue with the faces depicted by the artist Zloew who tell us their story and their vision. And they both combine their voices with the lightheartedness and motherhood of Mark's works.

Beauty of the imperfection
24-09-2022 t/m 15-01-2023
Japan Museum SieboldHuis, Gallery Yomooka and Gallery Café Leidse Lente, initiated art competition and exhibition 'Beauty of imperfection' in June this year. The 100 participating artists in total present one work with a maximum size of 25x25x25 cm, within the theme 'Beauty of imperfection', inspired by the Japanese aesthetic concept Wabi-sabi. A pottery bowl was provided to each participating artist. The artist was then free to interpret the work according to the theme within the set dimensions.
I am exhibiting Gift, a new work inspired by the theme "Beauty of imperfection" and the related Japanese concept of Wabi-sabi. The core part of this concept is aimed at the acceptance of transience and imperfection: nothing remains, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect. There is beauty to be found in imperfection.
For my visual expression, I looked at shapes, imagery and historical references such as the Tomobako, a typical Japanese packaging in the shape of a wooden box, which is used for ceramics, among other things, and the cherry blossom that flutters down like snow on Japanese prints.
My artwork was "XIBALBA POST KITSUNE"
