Realism with an abstract twist

Joanne is an English artist living in Breukelen.
She originally trained as a botanical artist where detail and accuracy were paramount. She now works in a much freer, abstract style.
Joanne has found the flexibility of oil pastels allows her to experiment with colour and texture by building up layers of colour to give depth or scratching into the colours to produce different textures.
Her main influences are the images and artefacts from the ancient world and flora and fauna, although all sorts of odd things pique her interest.
She describes her work as realism with an abstract twist.
