“It will be for
next year again”
Commissioned by RTV Maastricht, carnival
poster 2021 Acrylic and oil paint on canvas, 120x170cm

This work is not for sale, but a work in this style can be commissioned.

One of the wonderful moments with the Carnaval in Maastricht. Carnival Tuesday 11:55 pm Another 5 minutes… It is certainly a moment when many people have to shed a tear, but also the moment when the entire season passes you by, from the preparations, the making of the pitch, from the first cannon shot to this insurmountable moment. It is over "next year, far again!" The knowledge that we can celebrate again a year later is always a nice comfort.
Yet we also know that it can happen that a year passes you, so you can have to deal with illness or circumstances, which unfortunately makes it impossible for a year. Then you realize that celebrating your faith is given to you every year.
This year it is not a few among us who unfortunately have to pass a year due to circumstances, but we will all have to skip a year. As a theme this year I chose the moment when the fast-delaying lasts only 5 minutes. It flew very quickly this year and we are right at the closing moment. I hope we all have our steadfast memories that we can look back on with joy.
We are on the Vrijthof. The 'mooswief' goes down like this and the fast-loading is over again. The clock of St. John is at 11:55 pm. The churches are firmly in place, the towers above the crowd. A certainty that we have; Carnaval will always endure. Music bands play one last note. Or raise their instrument or banner in the air as a sign of victory. “t waor nne gooje” Here and there still a fist up, I'm broken. Children who dance and sing, Fireworks are lit and the Maastricht national anthem is played. A hug a laugh a tear a kiss. “It was fantastic” The crowd screams, the sky as if a battle is going on. “T is for sure! But next year we may celebrate carnaval again! ”
