/.../ The Amsterdam container has a ritual character. Three materials: water, iron and salt are used symbolically to depict the principles of time. The water, which runs down over the photographic self-portrait of the artist, symbolises life-giving water, birth and man’s unconscious. The rusty iron depicts transitoriness, and the salt stands for cleansing and immortality./.../
