The Polish artist Krystyna Ziach who lives in Amsterdam is known for her “photo-sculptures”, photos incorporated in monumental spatial constructions. Ziach uses combinations of photography and sculptural elements to create illusory effects which serve the symbolism that she expresses in her work. “Archê” – which is the Greek word for “origin” – is the title of her new show. This universal concept refers to the leitmotiv of “water” or “the wet element” which is implied. Water can be understood as a metaphor for transience and the passing of time. In Archê water is also the symbolic transformation from the material to the spiritual. Translation: J.M. Keulers

De Poolse in Amsterdam wonende kunstenares Krystyna Ziach staat bekend om haar “foto - objecten”; foto’s die zijn verwerkt in monumentale, ruimtelijke constructies. Ziach gebruikt de combinaties van fotografie met sculpturale elementen voor het creëren van illusoire effecten, die in dienst staan van de symboliek die zij met haar haar werk verbeeldt. “Archê” – wat Grieks is voor “oorsprong” – is de titel van haar nieuwe tentoonstelling. Dit universele begrip verwijst naar het leidmotief, “water”oftewel “het vochtige element”, dat hierin impliciet aanwezig is. Water kan worden opgewat als metafoor voor vergankelijkheid en voorbijglijden van de tijd. Water is in Archê ook de symbolische vertaling van het materiële naar het spirituele.
