Krystyna Ziach has been trained as a sculptress at the Academies of Fine Art of Cracow, Poland (1974-1979) and Enschede, the Netherlands (1979-1982), but at a certain moment turned to the medium of photography. In this field she has also made a name for herself: her photographs are included in the collections of, among others, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, Museum Kunst Palast in Düsseldorf and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Ziach has been an equally devoted practitioner of sculpture and photography and in doing so has spanned the gap between these two disciplines. Ziach’s education as a sculptress has certainly formed her way of looking at things. Even after applying herself to photography, she has always continued to look at reality like a sculptress. She continuously plays with optical illusions and the symbolic. Her so-called photo sculptures, where she transforms photographs into sculptures and combines them with materials such as mirrors, iron, sand, salt and charcoal, are an important part of her work. These photo sculptures are exhibited in the Beelden aan Zee museum. By the exhibition a book 'Krystyna Ziach / Space of Imagination' was published by Waanders & De Kunst, with texts by Hans Rooseboom and Jan Teeuwisse. Expositie : Krystyna Ziach / Space of Imagination Foto's en fotosculpturen, curator : Hans Rooseboom (curator fotografie Rijksmuseum Amsterdam) Krystyna Ziach is als beeldhouwster opgeleid aan de Academie van Beeldende Kunst in Krakau en Enschede (1973 - 1982), maar "bekeerde" zich op een gegeven moment tot de fotografie.Oók op dat gebied heeft ze naam gemaakt : foto's van haar hand zijn opgenomen in de collecties van o.a. het Centre Pompidou, Museum Kunst Palst Düsseldorf en het Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. Ziach heeft de beeldhouwkunst en fotografie met evenveel toewijding beoefend. Ze heeft daarmee een brug geslagen tussen de twee disciplines. Ziach opleiding tot beeldhouwer heeft zeker haar manier van kijken gevormd. Zelfs nadat ze zich ging toeleggen op fotografie, is zij altijd als beeldhouwer blijven kijken naar de werkelijkheid. Voortdurend speelt ze met optische illusies en symboliek. Belangrijk onder deel van haar œuvre zijn zgn. "fotosculpturen", waarin foto's beeldhouwwerken zijn geworden. Foto's zijn daarin gecombineerd met materialen als spiegels, ijzer, zand, zout en houtskool. Deze fotosculpturen worden tentoongesteld in Museum Beelden aan Zee. Bij de tentoonstelling verscheen een boek "Krystyna Ziach / Space of Imagination" uitgegeven door Waanders en Dr Kunst, met teksten van Hans Rooseboom en Jan Teeuwisse. Volkskrant, 15 november, 2014
