Robert van de Graaf
Oil on linen (Alu frame) / 180 x 180 x 4,5 cm / 2019 - 2020

This work is part of the series 'Silence and The City' (2019 - 2020).
‘Silence and The City’ is inspired by New York City and the search for contemplation and inner silence in everyday life, about finding meaning in life and the connection of the spiritual world with everyday life.

This painting is inspired by being in a state of introspection and contemplation and seeing daily life passing by. The lonely / silent place you can find yourself in sometimes while daily life is just rushing by. The spectator is standing in the space of silence and contemplation. Sometimes you can get a bit lost in your inner journey and then that spark of light from daily life is pulling you out. The silent place in the painting is inspired by the garden in front of the Grace Church in New York City, 80 Broadway, betw. 10th and 11th Street.
