This painting is inspired by Cisternerne, an underground water reservoir building at the highest point in Copenhagen. At the end of the 20th century it was definitively decommissioned and emptied. The 4000m² floor area has columns supporting the arches on which the concrete roof rests. In the mid-19th century, the water reservoir was designed to promote the drinking water supply to the city. The reservoir could hold up to 16 million liters. In the meantime, the water reservoir has not been in use as such since the 1930s. It has been completely pumped out since the 1990s and is now used as an exhibition space.
