Bert made this painting following a visit to the town of Doel in Belgium in May 2022. It shows the almost deserted village of Doel with the village's church in the background. Doel was once a quiet village in the Scheldt polder. Most houses have been empty for several years and the streets are full of graffiti and street art. Except for a dozen residents, the village is completely deserted. Little by little it becomes a ghost town. In the early 1970s, Doel still had 1400 inhabitants and now only about ten.
